Guernsey Goats: Rare Breed. Real Purpose.

The American Guernsey is one of the rarest dairy goat breeds in the United States, known for its rich, golden coloring and high-butterfat milk. Originally developed from golden-colored goats imported from the island of Guernsey and selectively bred in the U.S., the breed was refined for both dairy production and hardiness.

Valued for their calm temperament and versatility, Guernseys are a dual-purpose breed that performs well in the milk pail while maintaining strong, adaptable genetics.

At Grazy Acres, we’re proud to have established a small Guernsey herd here in Maine—one of only a few in the state and across New England. With limited numbers nationwide, thoughtful breeding programs like ours play an important role in preserving and strengthening the future of this unique and historic breed.
